Watched Omkaara today.
Not that i wanted to watch it, i had already presumed it to be a boring, slow and dull movie and had to travel almost one hour to reach the cinema house.Morever i had seen the Malayalam adaptation of Othello "Kaliyattam" by Jayaraj, that was a class apart and i thought nothing could beat it.
Well i proved myself wrong, it always happens nothing new about it.According to me a movie is sucessful, when i dont look at my watch and i didnt.
For starters, it will take five minutes to get acquainted with the language, but then as soon as you start understanding it you wish that you hadnt.Boy!!!! it beats all the previous records of any bollywood films in usage of hard core hindi fowl language.its so raw!!!!The film transports you to a village in UP and into the world of Omkara(AD) ,Langda Tyaagi(SK) ,Kesu(VO),Dolly(KK) and Indu (KS).And then as the rest of the world knows it is adaptation of Shakespeare's Othello.
The story has every single human emotion involved in love namely anger, jealousy , possesiveness, lust, passion and above all love. The overall mood is of despair but it has a lot of dark humour to it.Like any other mafia movie, this one too glorifies crime
Visually brilliant,it has a very earthy( so much use of mud), rustic feel to it.The cinematography is like a dream sequence, where every expression has been captured so wonderfuuly. Please check out the last scene...its a masterpiece..so damn creative.
Music (by Vishal Bhardwaj) is haunting most of the times, except in the case of two item songs, both done by Bips(billu)...she needs to add grace to her steps..its insipid.
The dialogues (by Vishal Bhardwaj again)are the backbone of the film..."Hassi badi mehngi ho rakkhi hain duniya mein".
But the heart lies in the acting done by the lead roles.Ajay is as efficient as ever,Konkana...she gets better with every movie i see of hers..so adorable and so real, she has the most strong and powerful character in the film ,Naseer is Naseer!!! Superlative, he adds so much innovations to one simple scene.Kareena Kapoor is commendable, very subtle, Vivek and Bipasha, i personally felt was a waste...
But our star here is..Saif Ali Khan...Remember this chap..who danced awkwardly to the tunes of "ole ole", to the lovable Sameer in DCH, the sophisticated Shekhar in Parineeta , the Tom Cruise in Hum Tum....He has been a revelation..Boy he rocks!!!
Looks like my loyalaties will soon be divided amongst the two Khan's Aamir and Saif..:-).
But beyond all this it is Vishal Bhardwaj film.As soon as i think of him, the first thing that comes to my mind is the haunting "chod aaye hum" from Maachis..Brilliant!!!Makdee, have seen it almost 3 times. Not watched Maqbool. The way he has etched out each character is stupendous, giving dignity and class to each of them.Looks like he has arrived(in my books) and so has Indian hindi cinema...
Welcome to the world of intelligent, creative and beautiful cinema. Please go watch it!!!
ok, looks good to me, i m buying the tickets...
